Ashton Avila is a Mexican American writer-director whose work brings a unique and diverse perspective to each story she tells. Avila recently directed an original pilot for Sony Playstation called Two Roads which is now available on all PlayStation platforms. She is currently working for Academy Award nominated writer-director David O. Russell.
Avila has been mentored by some of Hollywood’s best including Academy Award winning writer David S. Ward, The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen, former DGA President and award winning director Martha Coolidge, and many others. The National Association of Latino Independent Producers Emerging Creator Alum directed the Student Emmy nominated musical comedy Trying to Fuck: A Modern Day Romance, award winning 1960s period drama I Got You Babe and award winning teen sex comedy Have A Little Faith, all of which have screened at festivals around the world.
She previously worked as a production assistant on various feature films including Walter (directed by Anna Mastro and starring William H. Macy and Virginia Madsen), has been a production assistant at NBC’s Access Hollywood, and interned at JJ Abrams' Bad Robot. In addition, Avila continues to work as a freelance casting director for several companies including AwesomenessTV.
To strengthen her craft, she has shadowed director Martha Coolidge on an episode of TBS’s Angie Tribeca and director Katherine Martinez on AwesomenessTV’s series Twin My Heart with the Merrell Twins. Avila is currently adapting writer Tina Ferraro's Random House YA Book Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress into a feature and her original comedy pilot Joselito's was just named quarterfinalist in Screencraft's Pilot Launch.
